Telephone Access for Lotus Web Conferencing
IBM Lotus' Web
Conferencing (Sametime) product
provides audio and video conferencing
in addition to screen sharing,
whiteboarding, chat and other real time
collaboration features. However, the
audio conferencing capabilities provided
by Sametime are difficult to setup and
tune. Even when performing properly,
they are not adequate for many users.
Remark! Conferencing adds Telephone
Access to IBM Lotus Web
Conferencing, overcoming many of the
drawbacks inherent in the built-in audio
capability. Any telephone may be used
to participate in a conference. Although
Sametime includes audio conferencing, it
requires user expertise in the audio
capability of the computer being used. In
addition, complicated tuning of the
Sametime server is required to achieve
peak performance. With Remark!
Conferencing, users can dial into a
conference using any telephone to
connect with all Sametime Meeting Room
users and other telephone participants.
Telephone-only Users can join Conferences - In some situations, users
need to participate in a conference, but
don't have a computer available. Remark!
Conferencing allows users to call
in from any location and participate in
the audio portion of the conference.
Users simply call into the Remark! Voice
Server and enter the conference number
provided by Sametime to connect.
Improved Audio Performance - Many
users have not taken advantage of the
audio capabilities of Sametime due to the
latency (delay) experienced when using
the Sametime Meeting Room Client. This latency can be distracting for speakers as
well as listeners because it doesn't
provide a natural conversation experience.
Remark! Conferencing provides
significantly less latency resulting in a
more natural conversation.
